I love the February '74 Winterland run, and I look forward to the three night stand being officially released (it's only a matter of time). But I'd hardly call the 2/23 performance of The Other One the best of the year. It's not even close! In spite of the primitive Slipknot! Jam, it can't hold a candle to the uber jazzed out rendition performed in Lexington on 6/18/74, with its spectacular thematic jamming. Especially if youre a Philophile,,,

That would be a very nice release. 2/24 is one of my favorite shows. I admit I haven't heard a great deal of '74 other ones which is why I asked for suggestions. So far the 2/23 version IS the best I can remember from '74, but I don't have much to compare it to from the same year.

I'm glad you say this isn't even close to one of the best from '74. I'm excited to see what people suggest. I have high regard for your opinion Cliff, so I the Lexington Other One is next in the queue.

I know there's a few members here whose favorite years are '73-'74. I'd be curious to hear from them as well.

There's only 8 versions from 1974, one of which is just a jam. Cliff's recommendation is the best of the bunch- gotta love how it goes in to It's a Sin. 1972 is the year to go to.

I knew they didn't play TOO very much in '74 but never bothered checking how many times they did play it for some reason. Makes sense that it's only 8, I listen to a lot of '74 which is why I guess I haven't come across many versions.

I've heard 06-18 many times but don't remember being blown away by TOO. Haven't heard it in awhile but will do so tomorrow morning. And I believe you confused Lexington for Louisville Cliff. Although they are very close to each other!

Actually I'd rank it pretty highly - its one of the best, just not THE best. 6/18 is just so good that others pale by comparison.

I'd have to agree here, 6/18/74 is not only the best Other One of 1974, it's one of the greatest of all time! It's not the very long, but they really take this song to its farthest limits.

That said, 2/23 is quite excellent, one of my favorites in fact. the whole 2/23 show is underrated imo.

thanks for the 06-18 rec. it has everything i was looking for. i do like it better than 02-23, but not by a lot. i still think 02-23 is very good.

now i need to compare it to one of my all-time favorites: 1969-03-02!

11/1/68 all-around is one of the best TOOs ever I think. Jerry is so ferocious in the extended opening jam, and the reprise is stunning.

Personally though, I think 3/2/69's reprise really goes the distance...the intensity is just unbelievable!!!!

I've listened to this TOO probably 8 times straight, now 9, and this version is one of the high-energy watermarks for this tune,,, can't tear myself away! Excellent call, Clem.

Enjoy,

WOW! Wisc, looks like Cliff did your HW for you. Just what I was looking for once again. I'm still waiting for you to give a recommendation I don't like. With all the early dead I listen to, I've somehow never heard this show. Thanks again for another fine suggestion.

1976-07-18 is VERY hot as well!
